Hello, my name is Jeff Hume. I am a new media producer specializing in audio and video podcast production, website creation, online strategy and social media. I have a passion for using the Internet to create and distribute information in a changing landscape. Be it entertainment or information of societal importance, I wish to create or enable content that is innovative and meaningful to individuals and to society as a whole.
Come the official ceremony in September, I will be a graduate of the MA in Media Production program at Ryerson University, where I focused on new media, society and citizen journalism. Prior to Ryerson, I graduated with a BA from the University of Toronto having taken a joint specialist degree in political science and history.
My first encounter with creating online content and platforms came in 2000 when I joined a team of young students who had created Bizcents, a website intended to provide business advice and information to youth. While Bizcents eventually faded after some success, I continued to pursue online content, setting up a blog in 2001 and immersing myself in the world of technology and the web. In 2005, I co-created A Foot In The Crease, one of the first ever hockey podcasts. With worldwide success, A Foot In The Crease has completed its fourth season and to-date has produced over 170 episodes.
In 2006 I directed innovative use of online video for the John Laforet campaign for city council and have since produced video content for his very popular blog.
Since that time I have been significantly involved in a number of varied new media projects such as Current on the Wire, a source for timely video citizen journalism, Movable Stage, a video podcast of live music in Toronto, and JurisDiction, an intellectual property law podcast, among others. More information on these projects can be found on the Projects page.
